Trailhead Information

A popular section of the Mississippi River Trail for both active and passive users, there are multiple trail heads within Davenport's city limits. Beginning on the east end, users can find parking and access at Lindsey Park adjacent to the East Village. Another major entry point can be found in the middle of Downtown Davenport at LeClaire Park. The 400-acre park includes monuments, a bandshell, a baseball stadium and many other amenities. The trail loops around scenic Credit Island Park, which was the site of a battle during the War of 1812 led by future president Zachary Taylor.

Description

Davenport's 11.3 mile section of the Mississippi River Trail parallels the Mississippi River, starting at the city's western border. It continues to Bettendorf's city limits and on through the City of Bettendorf.  Along the way, trail users will pass Davenport's Centennial Park—which opened on the reclaimed site of a landfill, rail yard, and fairground in 2004—and Modern Woodmen Park, home to the Quad Cities River Bandits of Minor League Baseball. Farther east, a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge at LeClaire Park and Rhythm City Casino will take you over busy River Drive to the River Music Experience and the heart of downtown Davenport.

The Davenport section of the Mississippi River Trail is part of the larger 3,000-mile Mississippi River Trail (MRT) System that follows the Mississippi River from the headwaters in Itasca, Minnesota to its delta at the Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans, Louisiana. The trail provides access and connections to neighborhoods, commercial districts, industrial areas, recreational areas, and historical landmarks at the local, state, and national level.

Other Information

The Davenport section of the MRT is also part of one other significant trail network: the American Discovery Trail (ADT). The American Discovery Trail traverses the U.S., coast to coast, from California to Delaware for more than 6,800 miles across 15 states.
